UMW Social Action … METAL TABS. The last part of 2011 was a banner period for donations of metal tabs and very much appreciated. Another six plus pounds of tabs have been recently collected thru your continued generosity and will continue to go toward this program to offset costs of medical care for needy children at Shriners Hospital for Children. Please continue saving the metal tabs from beverage cans, prepared canned foods, canned fruits and vegetables, soups, other, and place in large "marked jar" in Fellowship Hall. VETERANS HOME. Thank you to all who recently contributed 25 knitted hats, mittens and scarves for senior veterans residing in the nearby Veterans Home in N.E. Philadelphia. Also appreciated are other requested personal items by the Home that will be placed in their Canteen and made available to the residents, as needed. USED EYE GLASSES. This project is ongoing, and a small cardboard box is provided under the Missions Board in Fellowship Hall for collection. Debbie Letham, UMW President, recently passed on approximately 15 pair of used eye glasses to her Dad, a longtime member of The Lions Club. He has given them to the Lions Club for distribution to those who can use them. FLOC TOOTH FAIRY BAGS. Please know that your contributions of items for FLOC Tooth Fairy Bags are always appreciated and put to good use by needy children. As you may know, the women of the Forward Look Class continue to construct decorative drawstring cloth bags and fill with health care items from your donations. United Methodist Women also help support and contribute to FLOC. The children are identified by the school nurses, particularly in the Bristol, Morrisville, and Bensalem schools. Just recently FLOC had a first time request for FLOC bags by the YMCA in Bensalem who provides an after school program for needy children, mentoring, helping with homework, activities, a safe place. 23 bags were just recently completed by FLC for them for immediate delivery, and 12 more are almost completed, these needing fluoride toothpaste; in addition, 91 other completed FLOC bags were donated by FLC over past several months and delivered to the schools. Your generosity keeps this program going, helping out families over many years. A marked bin is in Fellowship Hall for your donations, specifically needed at this time are: toothpaste (fluroride), sturdy combs and hair brushes, regular size shampoo, bar soap, wash cloths, deodorant, small packs tissues, have enough toothbrushes for now. FOOD DONATIONS. With being “the Church” we have to think about people who are hungry and without food. Calls from area pantries say that their shelves are empty and they are refusing people. Please help. Supermarkets are having sales on canned goods and many items, so as you shop please remember those who are in need, as you have always done, and let us continue to be “the hands and feet of Christ” here on earth. Bins are in Fellowship Hall for your generous donations.
